Pietrarsa was home to the first Italian metalworking workshop from 1840 to 1975.

Five years after the end of production and a rigorous restoration, the structure was used for the conservation and illustration of the History of the State Railways.

The itinerary begins with a presentation of the first steam locomotives and the subsequent electric locomotives present in the first pavilion.

A prominent element of this area is the faithful reconstruction of the first Naples-Portici convoy.

In the second pavilion, commonly used railway objects, locomotives and small-scale wagons are presented.

The third room contains old machinery from the metalworking workshop, and the most recent direct current electric carriages and locomotives. A prestigious element of this vast collection is the Salon Carriage of the Savoy train, today the “Train of the Presidency of the Italian Republic”.
